The first visit
Helping your child feel ready
A little preparation goes a long way. Kids take cues from their grown-ups, so keeping things positive and low-key helps them feel confident.
Tip: Try to book first visits in the morning or after a nap, when little ones are well rested.
If your child is nervous, our guide on helping a child who's afraid of the dentist has step-by-step ideas. Families of children with sensory sensitivities may find our autism and dental visits guide helpful, and you can read how we adapt care on our special needs dentistry page.
Easy ways to prepare
- Read a picture book about visiting the dentist together
- Play "dentist" at home: count teeth with a toothbrush
- Use simple, positive words like "clean," "count," and "shiny"
- Skip scary words like "shot," "drill," or "hurt" and let us explain
- Bring a favorite stuffed animal or comfort item

New family FAQ
Good questions, quick answers
More answers on our homepage FAQ, or just give us a call.
How early should we arrive for the first visit?
Please arrive about 15 minutes early if you haven't completed forms online, or 5 minutes early if you have.
Does a parent or guardian need to come to the appointment?
Yes. A parent or legal guardian needs to attend the first visit and any visit that includes treatment, so we can review history and get consent.
What if I need to reschedule?
Just call us at least 24 hours ahead and we'll find a new time that works.
Can siblings be seen at the same visit?
Often, yes. Let us know when you book and we'll try to schedule back-to-back appointments.
What if we don't have dental insurance?
You're still welcome. We'll explain costs up front and go over payment options before any treatment.
Ready for a happy, healthy smile?
We’re opening soon in Roseville. Request an appointment and our team will reach out to schedule.
